EDA Consortium Teams with JEITA to Expand Japan's Premiere Electronic Design
Event
SAN JOSE, California, June 12, 2001 - The Japan Electronics and Information
Technology Industries Association (JEITA) and the EDA (Electronic Design
Automation) Consortium today announced a joint cooperation agreement in
support of the annual Electronic Design and Solution (EDS) Fair. With the
support the EDA Consortium's 119 members companies, the cooperation raises
worldwide awareness of the EDS Fair and supports greater participation of
global exhibitors and attendees, provides a broader view of EDA technology,
expands the EDA market in Japan, and establishes better communication
between worldwide EDA companies and other electronic design industries. In
its ninth year, the EDS Fair is the most comprehensive event in Japan for
designers of electronic products with 90 exhibitors including EDA, IP,
FPGA/PLD, IC vendors and design houses.
JEITA is a primary sponsor of the EDS Fair and its subordinate organization,
the EDA Technical Committee, substantially manages the EDS Fair. The mission
of the EDS Fair is to fulfill today's requirements for new solutions by
combining advanced technologies and to contribute to, and further promote,
the development and growth of electronics and related industries.
"This cooperation opens the door for new collaborative efforts and enhanced
relationships between electronic companies worldwide. We believe our
collaboration, through an internationalization of the EDS Fair, will bring
substantial benefits to the electronics industry in Japan" said Takashi
Kambe, Chairman of the EDA Technical Committee of JEITA and Deputy Division
General Manager of Design Technology Development Laboratories, Integrated
Circuits Group, SHARP Corporation.
"Our goal was to provide a focused event in Japan for our member companies
and we are very pleased that JEITA, as the sponsor of the EDS Fair, has
entered into this mutually beneficial agreement with EDA Consortium." said
Ray Bingham, Chairman of EDA Consortium and CEO and president of Cadence
Design Systems.
"We are delighted to actively support the Electronic Design and Solution
Fair," added Pamela Parrish, executive director of the EDA Consortium. "As
the premiere event in Japan, the EDS Fair offers designers the most advanced
technology solutions for the evolution of electronic products."
"We will be able to enrich the EDS Fair by establishing a cooperation with
EDA Consortium" said Tamotsu Hiwatashi, Chairman of the EDS Fair and Senior
Manager of Planning Department of System LSI Division, Toshiba Corporation
Semiconductor Company. "Consequently, the EDS Fair will provide designers in
Japan with the most advanced information available, also, it will provide
new business opportunities to design solution companies in the United
States, Europe and other regions in the world. The cooperation of JEITA and
EDA Consortium will promote further evolution of the industry."
About JEITA
The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association
(JEITA) was inaugurated on November 1, 2000, through the merger of the Japan
Electronic Industry Development Association (JEIDA) and Electronic
Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ). At the time of its establishment,
JEITA's membership included 422 full members (including 10 associations) and
158 associate members (including nine associations), for a total of 580
members. For more information, visit www.jeita.org.jp.
About the EDA Consortium
Founded in 1989, the EDA Consortium is an international association of
companies engaged in the development, manufacture, and sale of electronic
design automation tools and services. The Consortium's mission is to promote
the health of the industry and does so by leading forums to discuss industry
issues, sponsoring the DAC and DATE conferences, and disseminating relevant
information such as revenue statistics through the Market Statistics
Service. The Consortium is composed of a board of directors of industry CEOs
with active committees and supporting staff.

About Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
Electronic Design Automation (EDA) is the fundamental means by which
electronic engineering ideas become reality. EDA provides the software and
design services vital to the creation and delivery of the world's electronic
products. EDA products and services are used by virtually every major
semiconductor and electronics systems company in the world including,
computer, communications, consumer electronics, medical and aerospace. The
industry employs over 20,000 people and more than 500,000 people use its
tools and services.
